- Empowering People for Conservation -
Removing the financial barrier to go to university for conservationists from local communities of protected areas in Africa.
Conservation ruled by foreigners?
Given the ongoing global ecological crises, effective nature conservation on the African continent is indispensable. However, exclusion of local communities from their land and its management, which they have successfully preserved over centuries, must not be the solution. We need competent decision-makers from local communities to preserve the fascinating biological and cultural diversity of the African continent. So far, the financial barrier is preventing many high potential conservation leaders from getting the necessary qualifications.
Let's change that.
The current inequality cycle
Management by outsiders
Leadership positions in conservation and research are often dominated by people from wealthy backgrounds, countires or cities.
Inaccessible education
Many families can't afford university fees. Funding possibilities are difficult to access or close to non-existent in many countries.
Dead end jobs
Highly competent conservationists from local communities are working in positions with little say in decisions and little promotion prospects due to the lack of formal qualifications
Global nature conservation is done locally
Sustainable nature conservation, including social, economic and ecological aspects,
requires equal opportunities.
Support of local competencies is crucial for facing our global challenges.
Insider knowledge
Local managers and scientists have a deep understanding of their own land, communities
and ecosystems.
Perspectives
People from different backgrounds enrich decision making with their diverse
point of view.
Growth opportunities
Conservation & local communities becoming one, can lead to more sustainable and social long-term solutions.
Our vision & mission
We want to contribute to the decolonization of international conservation from within. We support local conservation leaders of tomorrow on their way to a university degree by offering support in finding and applying for scholarships, and with our own scholarship program. For equal opportunities, for accessible education and for strong local voices in conservation management and leadership positions.
Our sholarships
Through donations and the proceeds from our events, we finance the conservation studies of tomorrow's decision-makers.
Our events
Motivated by our common mission, we organize a variety of events at our universities and beyond to finance scholarships.
Our team
We are a group of students and conservationists from various European and African universities. Everyone is invited to use their ideas and skills for our common goal.
